Piggies And Pets
Guinea pigs are very sociable animals but are also rather delicate and can be seriously injured by other pets. Guinea pigs should never be housed with any other pet but its own kind, see 'can a guinea pig live with a rabbit?' page.
Never leave your guinea pig and your dog together without your supervision. No matter how friendly and placid your dog may be there is something about watching a guinea pig scuttling around that brings out a natural predatory instinct or playfulness in dogs. Many guinea pigs have been injured or killed by other domestic pets because they have been left alone. Even if your guinea pig is in a secure run in the garden be very careful letting dogs near, it has been known for a dog to seriously injure itself trying to bite through wire.
What other pets may see as 'play' can KILL your guinea pig, please be careful.
